Learn more. My daughter lives in Gulfport and I tend to find some Pho places to eat. I haven't been to happy with the couples places I tried. I came across this place on Yelp and hesitated because it's a 25 min drive but just the name of this place you have to say it fast made me take it.
It's a small decent clean place. We had to place our order at counter. I wanted to try the King special but because it's a huge bowl I decided to go with the small and give the broth a taste first. I ordered the crunchy pork recommended by Yelp customers and I'll say it was good other than I expected a much more crunch to it but I'm assuming the fish sauce soaked up and make it alittle soft.
I will order it the next time only I will ask for sauce on side. The Pho king Spot is one of the most newly opened Pho restaurants on the Gulf coast. It lays in the shopping area of Lakeview Village directly across from Mullet hop. We came in on a Saturday night to see what they offered and decided to give them a try. We went ahead and placed a order of goi cuon, The Pho King Special, and crunchy pork. The goi cuon was nicely wrapped filled with noodles, shrimp and assorted vegetables.
The peanut sauce was great especially after adding chili sauce to it and the freshly chopped peanuts gave it a nice crunch to the appetizer. Shortly after finishing the appetizer the main entrees came out as well as the vegetables for the pho. The side vegetables of the pho consisted of Thai basil, jalapeno peppers slices, cilantro sprigs, and bean sprouts. The size of the pho was good with shank, meatballs, rare steak and 2 beef ribs. The beef ribs were tender and fell off the bone with a simple push of the chopstick.
The broth was very light but the aroma from the herbs and spices definitely came through. The noodles were cooked al dente with a perfect snap back when chewing. The pho was good but also very light to me and I wish it packed more of a punch with flavor when slurping it. The crispy pork came out with a side of rice, 3 cucumbers and some pickled carrots and daikon.
I was excited to try it since I read all the reviews on it and unfortunately it didnt meet what I imagined. The flavor was really sweet and just wasn't what I expected. The rice was nice and fluffy and the pickled veggies complemented it very well but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
Overall A-OK place in my opinion but then again the prices are a little steeper than the competitors. Feel free to give this place a shot and see what The Pho King is all about! See all photos from Bradly P.
This place had an emergency closing -- i had been looking forward to reopening. I was greeted by the owner and was able to pick any table i wanted. I noticed a family occupying a table in the back and a customer waiting for a take out. This place has a clean layout and ambience. For dinner, i got a grilled pork and noodles in a bowl.
It, too, was tasty. For the amount of money spent, it was better than average. Barbeque pork, marinated radish, cut cucumber on a bed of noodles - all on shredded lettuce -- came with sweet fishsauce. Fresh spring rolls shrimp and sliced pork with peanut sauce - i added sricha and hoisin sauce.
A nice little place with great pho. Only the pho. Otherwise, don't order the non Vietnamese appetizers or other foods as they don't specialize in it. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and it was absolutely mediocre. Not terrible but I would compare it to PF Chang's microwaveable chicken. Definitely wasn't crispy. Also, the crab rangoon wasn't that crisp crunch I was looking for. Kinda hard even. Enjoyed the meal here last week.
The atmosphere was great. Food was excellent. Great food portions. Excellent service. The pho king was what I got and it was delicious. My waiter was on top things. I came around mid day, wasn't to bad crowded. Two big screens to watch sports. If you're in craving of a hearty meal that reminds you of an Asian mama home cooking, you are definitely in the right spot. This restaurant is fairly new in the area, and I happened to discovered this hidden gem when I was shooting pool with my boyfriend next door.
This dinette in particular presents a clean, simple, modern, and relaxed atmosphere with cute decors, and interiors.
Once you place your eyes on the menu, surprises awaits. Unlike other traditional menus, their style is contemporary, and more attractive. I must say I was overwhelmed with plethora of toothsome dishes that was listed. I appreciate the idea behind Asian fusion as if you are getting the best of both worlds. I'm Chinese, and my boyfriend is Vietnamese. It's love at first site for the both of us.
Nonetheless, don't let the word "fusion" confuse you. Pho King Spot offers variety of authentic Vietnamese dishes in conjunction with Chinese cookings. We've been here 3 times while we were visiting family. Never once we were disappointed. Service was genuine, warm, and welcoming. Should you have any questions and concerns, feel free ask your server for assistance. Drinks- While others may prefer sodas. I much rather slurp on healthy, thirst quenching lemonade made fresh from then kitchen.
Can't say no to a refreshing drink full of Vitamin C. Main courses- The Vietnamese Style Crunchy Pork Texture is stimulating with a hint of savory saltiness, and finishes with sweetness. It's coated with a nice crisp on the outside and, tender and juicy in the inside. I was a little afraid to try this plate at first, because I had crunchy pork that were just overcooked and dry.
Pho King Special I can't stop dreaming about going back just for this dish. The beef broth is the best thing on the menu in my opinion. It's packed with a punch of aromatic flavors from slow simmer. It must of been on the stove for at least 7hrs to extract those flavors properly from the bones, and spices that were infused. This a bowl of honest Pho made with love. It's full of fresh ingredients and well balanced flavors. A must try for everyone who appreciates Pho. I would eat here everyday if could.
We had the fired chicken wings. They were crispy and well marinated. Nothing better then tasting the flavor all the way to the bone. What we really were here for was the Pho. I had the Pho Dac Biet. The broth was amazing, which what Pho is all about. How do we know when the Pho is good? When eating just the noodles along and they taste like Pho is how you can judge if the broth is premium or not.
Also got a little surprise of chicken which usually isn't in a Dac Biet. Banh mi thit nuong was pretty good. Ph was mediocre. I'd eat here again, but there wasn't anything phenomenal about this Vietnamese restaurant.
